Our boat is available for private cruises of the surrounding waters of Cape Hatteras. The Stormy Petrel II is a good platform for larger groups (lots of room for up to 30 or so passengers). In most cases, cruises will be planned for the early evening, so as not to interfere with our daytime fishing charters, but cruises of a longer duration can sometimes be scheduled for morning or afternoon time slots. A typical cruise departs the marina and goes out to Hatteras Inlet and the near shore ocean waters if sea conditions permit. We see the wild estuarine waters and a variety of bird life. Sometimes we are lucky enough to have close encounters with our local bottlenose dolphin.
I have been organizing and leading pelagic birding trips since 1986. In 1995, I moved to Hatteras, North Carolina so that I could offer a more extensive schedule of sea trips in some of the most consistently productive offshore birding waters in the western North Atlantic. The close proximity of both the warm Gulf Stream current and the edge of the Continental Shelf inshore, as well as the influence of the cooler Labrador Current make Hatteras waters a dynamic environment which attracts a remarkable diversity of seabirds throughout the year. Please call anytime for specific details or visit our birding website.
